The power of learning

24th July 2020

There is something very powerful about learning and how it makes you feel. During the past few months of uncertainty, brought about by the pandemic, the constant thing that has remained in our learners’ lives is their learning journey, something which we are very proud of. And we have witnessed a transformation in many of those who have signed up to either one of our apprenticeships or a short course; learning has not only given them new-found skills, but confidence, hope, ambition and foundations from which to build the rest of their career – and even their lives. Talking to our learners about their experiences, we have been blown away by their thoughts and overjoyed at the positive effects that learning has had on every aspect of their world, so much so, that we have decided to collate some of the quotes and share them with you all. Hopefully they will help to make you feel inspired as they are a great example of how anything is possible when you put your mind to it!

‘I feel I have been given a second chance. I did not do great at school, but this course has been easy to follow and the great support from the tutor has helped me get through. I now have the confidence to apply for a job role, using my CSCS card.’

Josh, Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment.

I never knew anything about apprenticeships before I applied for this one, I also couldn’t believe I was considering something like this at the age of 49, but I am so glad I did do it and I would advise anyone else to just go for it.’

Chris. Level 2 Onboarding Station team Member Apprentice.

‘Raising three children and sharing my apprenticeship experience with them throughout my journe, has helped to reinforce the importance of learning to my kids. My achievement has proved to them that despite your age, anything is possible, as long as you have the determination and willingness to put in the hard work. I feel I have ignited a passion for learning, and I want to continue that.’

Jen, Level 3 Team Leader Apprentice.

‘The flexibility of the online course was great as I could work through each section at my own pace from the comfort of my home. The course and content were simple to follow, and it was also massively helpful having a course tutor I could contact and get feedback from throughout. I now know I am capable of learning away from a classroom environment and organising my time effectively to complete the work set.’

Lucy, Level 2 Business Administration learner.

‘I was made redundant and wanted to update my skills while looking for employment and decided to just go for it. This programme has created a genuine thirst for learning, and I cannot wait to develop my skills further in the workplace.’

Loretta, Level 2 Lean Manufacturing Operations learner.

‘I loved the psychological aspects of the course. I particularly enjoyed the modules on self-awareness, decision making and leading a team. It wasn’t simply a course to equip you with skills to lead or manage a team, but it was also a course to help you understand people better and to tailor your management styles to suit your audience. Apprenticeships are so worth pursuing, I now manage my time more effectively, setting myself achievable SMART goals, which we learnt on the course, and I am able to keep on top of my work by being flexible with my time.’

Anna, Level 3 Team leader Apprentice.

‘I’d been a manager for about 4 years, responsible for varying headcounts and levels of seniority. I felt lucky to be given a chance to complete a Level 5 qualification and family and friends were impressed it was the equivalent of a Foundation degree. One of the highlights was building a strong bond with the other learners, it was great to not only develop ourselves but our professional relationships too. I now plan on using my newly acquired skills to take the next steps in my career.’

Zoe, Level 5 Operations Management Apprentice.

If you have been left feeling inspired, then please view what programmes we have to offer for yourself or to develop your workforce as an employer. We have a wide range of apprenticeships available as well as fully funded courses for unemployed people. We believe that learning is for everyone.
